Our solid stainless steel marking knife details:

• 1/8" thick x 5/8" wide x 5-7/8" long, easily fits in an apron and feels great in the hand.
  
• Precision machined.  Variable width chamfers on the top and bottom sides allow for picking the knife up easily.
  
• Satin finished for looks as well as just the right amount of grip.
• 2 holes, countersunk on the top and bottom.  One for hanging the knife up and the other acts as a gripping point for your finger and thumb. 
• Where's the wooden handle you might be asking?  It would get in the way of marking out joinery in tight spaces and laying the knife flat in use.  Gripping the knife near the cutting edge also allows for much greater control.  Further, it can be sharpened in a honing guide such as the Veritas™ MKII.
  
• Spear point is perfect for marking in either direction and fits into tight spaces.
• Lapped flat back for using it as a chisel.  Excellent for chiseling into the inside corners of half-blind dovetails.
  
• Sandvik 14C28N steel hardened to Rockwell 60, cryogenically treated and double tempered (pictures show Nitro-V engraving, they will be replaced soon)
• 14C28N is an improvement over the very similar Nitro-V steel used in previous knives
  
• We machined and tested sample knives in several tool and knife steels including O1, A2, 1095, CPM-3V and originally found that Nitro-V was the optimal formula for a marking knife.  Since then, 14C28N has became readily available and has edged out Nitro-V as the optimal marking knife steel for those who value ease of sharpening.
  
• 14C28N hardened to Rockwell 60 has an excellent mix of toughness, edge retention, ease of sharpening and corrosion resistance for a marking knife.  If you would prefer a higher performance knife that has quite a bit more wear resistance at the cost of more difficult sharpening, check out the CPM MagnaCut Marking Knife.
  
• Includes a leather sheath made in house, complete with hammered copper rivets.
• Also includes options for engraving patterns.  Patterns can be engraved on both faces or just the top face (except for 'Clean', which is only on top face)
• Some engraving patterns are limited to a set number and are individually numbered.  Once they are sold out, they will be retired.
• Very Small Rocks limited edition note: only a few left, place an order for the available one (engraved both sides) and leave a note or email me if you only want the top engraved.

Note on leadtimes: the current leadtime listed means that orders placed today are expected to ship within that amount of time.  It doesn't guarantee items will be in stock and ready to ship at that time in the future for orders placed then.  In other words, you may be waiting indefinitely if you wait to place an order until the leadtime is lasted as 'In stock, ready to ship'.  My goal is to have all standard products ready to ship but currently many of them are being built to order.
