All the wooden screws and nuts from Lake Erie are beautifully executed and perform well. From material selection to finished product, the care taken in the process is evident.
The screw is amazing! Used it for a leg vise, it's perfect. action is super smooth, moves incredibly fast. I was on the fence about using this vs a metal screw, and I'm so glad I chose this.
There are a million of these vintage Stanley block planes for sale on Ebay so I didn't feel bad about painting this one in copper. I didn't like the thin vintage blade. The CPM Magnacut turned this plane into a real user tool. The cutting edge is square to the sides and sharpens well on whetstones. The rounded back end is a nice touch. The cutouts for the fine depth adjustment fit the adjuster pawls perfectly, but they are through cuts. For the lever cap to work, I used double-sided tape for a brass shim to cover the cutout holes on the topside (see pictures). If you don't like you block plane, maybe the CPM blade will change your mind. Cheers!
Still haven't made my Moravian workbench which i bought the vice screw for but the product is great. Really well made, a lovely piece of art in itself. Hope my build lives up to it when done. Thanks Nick and team.
